BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Arts
Opened since 2002 in an old converted flour mill, the iconic BALTIC Centre is essentially a large contemporary art gallery with a large calendar of exhibitions and new work projects. The BALTIC Centre also offers a range of other services from seminars, courses and workshops to guided tours, social events and family activities. The centre was also the venue for the 2011 Turner Prize, attracting a record 149,000 visitors. The BALTIC Centre is only a stone’s throw away from our hotel in Gateshead Quays.
St Mary’s Heritage Centre
Discover Gateshead’s rich history at St Mary’s Heritage Centre housed in the beautiful, Grade I listed church dating back to the 12thCentury! The interior offers a range of permanent and changing displays of various events from the city’s past. The heritage centre also runs various events throughout the year and guided tours around the building so you don’t miss any of the ‘secret features’.
St Mary’s Heritage centre is open Tuesdays to Saturdays 10am to 4pm, and is an easy 12-minute walk from Jurys Inn Quayside.
intu Metrocentre in Gateshead is Europe’s largest shopping and leisure centre. With over 300 outlets as well as brilliant leisure facilities and restaurants, it’s the perfect place for a bit of retail therapy, and is only a 13 minute train ride from Newcastle Central Station or 10 minute drive from our hotel in Quayside.
