Dublin City Centre

The James Joyce Centre and Dublin Writers Museum

Dublin is bursting with literary excellence as the Irish literary tradition is one of the most illustrious in the world. Ireland has produced literary legends from Jonathan Swift to James Joyce, along with four Nobel prizes for Literature awarded to Yeats, Shaw, Beckett and Heaney, Dublin has much to celebrate.

The Dublin Writers Museum brings three hundred years of writers and writing to life through collections of their letters, portraits, personal items, and of course, their books. Enjoy exhibitions, lunchtime theatre and readings, and for younger guests, there is a room dedicated to children’s literature.

The James Joyce Centre dedicates itself ‘to promoting an understanding of the life and works of James Joyce’. As Joyce’s heartland, birthplace, and setting for all his works, Dublin provides the perfect setting to exhibit, teach, and outreach an appreciation for a remarkable and significant literary figure of the 20th Century.

The James Joyce Centre is a brief 6 minute walk from Jurys Inn Dublin Parnell Street and costs €5 for an adult. Dublin Writers Museum admission costs €7.50 for adults and €4.70 for children and can be found a 6 minute jaunt away from Jurys Inn.

Dublin City Art Gallery and The Garden of Remembrance

Next door to Dublin Writers Museum, and a short five minute walk (see above) from Jurys Inn Dublin Parnell Street sits Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane. As the home of Ireland’s foremost collections of modern and contemporary art, the gallery is definitely worth a visit. With events, collections, exhibitions, a Francis Bacon Studio as well as kids club and Sunday concert, you will not be short of things to do or see, and Admission is free.

Over the road from the City Art Gallery and Dublin’s Writers Museum is the Garden of Remembrance. The Garden is beautiful and a place of reflection as a dedication in memory of all who gave their lives for Irish freedom. Even if only for a brief stop, this garden is worth a stroll.
