Things to do | Posted 20 Feb 2014

There is so much to do in the wonderful city of London, but even so, it can be easy to stick to what you know. This list of activities aims at providing a balance of options, which are both indulgent and a little different.

This is your chance to try something new and exciting, whether you are visiting London as a tourist from abroad or closer to home, staying in one of our London Hotels. Below we have covered our favourite places to go for good cinema, music, drinks and food.

Secret Cinema Club

Activity Type: Immersive

The Secret Cinema club isn’t such a secret anymore. Events put on by the club have been widely hailed as large-scale cultural experiences where attendees participate in a social experience aimed at changing the ways we perceive culture.

Usually people get to choose what they see when they go to the cinema – but not at this one. The “experience” feels like a blind date crossed with a treasure hunt for adults. And it’s amazing. No one knows exactly what to expect when you turn up, but you soon find yourself thrown into a world created around the film by actors and an extremely well-thought-out set. This is a great opportunity to indulge in a very different way of actively experiencing a film.

The Jamboree

Activity Type: Different

“A cauldron of creative living… an atmospheric haunt in which to enjoy a show, and suspend time and place” – the Jamboree venue in East London is serious about music, offering live acts six days a week. Indulge in a night of alternative music and hang out with the area’s infamous hipster crowd.

The music on weekends is usually more upbeat and during the week there are various regular themed music nights catering for a range of different tastes and crowds. Check out events page for more information.

The Savoy

Activity Type: Afternoon Tea

Afternoon tea in the Thames Foyer at The Savoy is surely the most quintessentially British activity on this list, and perhaps, one of the most indulgent too. Expect a selection of tasty finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones with Devonshire clotted cream and their own strawberry jam – all served on a traditional afternoon tea stand – followed by a tantalising selection of signature pastries and cakes.

Tea at the Savoy is truly an experience visitors to London should consider, especially if one is seeking to spend a very special afternoon with family or friends. Be warned, luxury of this stature comes at a price, but London isn’t the most expensive city in the world for no reason!

The Savoy is easily accessible for those staying in Central London – just off The Strand, by Waterloo Bridge.

The Connaught Bar

Activity Type: Luxury

The Connaught Bar in Mayfair is the perfect place to drink cocktails in style. Sit back and enjoy the cubist inspired 1920’s décor, fashioned by renowned interior designer David Collins (who sadly passed away last year).

The Connaught Bar is truly an indulgent place to sip a cocktail chosen from an exclusive menu whilst sitting back on an antique leather sofa.

The White Lyan

Activity Type: Cutting-edge

The White Lyan in Hoxton is an unusual place – the first thing you notice on arrival is the lack of any branded spirits and mixers. There is definitely a minimalist feel to the experience, but without doubt it is a rare opportunity to indulge in cutting-edge mixology.

Drinks on the menu have been re-invented, pre-prepared, and are served without fruits or ice, so if you’re looking to try something different, this is the place to check out!
