There’s no better way to celebrate Halloween this year than by learning or experiencing something new. The bi-annual arts festival ‘Museums at Night’ gives you access to museums, art galleries and civic centres all over the UK out of hours, featuring a range of activities and Halloween-themed events throughout October. Check out some of the festival’s highlights below, so that you can plan a Jurys Inn getaway that’s inspiring, educational and most importantly – spooky!
Cartwright Hall Art Gallery
Just a 10-minute drive from Jurys Inn Bradford
Visit the Cartwright Hall Art Gallery by night for a free all-access look at the exhibitions, permanent galleries and the dedicated gallery shop. Inside there will be a live music performance by students from Bradford Grammar School. The main attraction however is outside: the Cecil Green Arts Lantern Parade will light up Lister Park and the Moghul Garden with fire jugglers and a selection of live music performers.
The parade will take place on 26th October 2017 between 6.30pm – 7.30pm.

Enter the eerie sci-fi atmosphere of Infinite Lives, a psychedelic display of science, music and experimentation. This live-lab experiment looks into the nature of consciousness by examining microscopic bacteria. Their miniature existence will be projected in a gallery of robotic devices to an electronic soundtrack. This hallucinatory show is open to children, but parental guidance is advised.
The exhibition opens on 26-28th of October 2017 between 9:00pm – 9:45pm.

Bletchley Park was once the top-secret home of World War Two codebreakers like Tony Kendrick and Alan Turing, who famously broke the Enigma code. Now, travel back to 1944 with Blackout Bletchley, an immersive family event at the birthplace of modern information technology. Explore the site after dark and see what contemporary codebreakers got up to from night-to-night.
Blackout Bletchley is open to all ages with prices ranging from £25 for adults, to £8.00-15.00 for children. The event takes place on 27-28th October 2017 from 9:30pm.

If you are after time travel of a more ghoulish sort, then head to the Royal Armouries in Leeds for a dynamic storytelling event fit for the whole family. What’s My Afterlife? is an accessible journey into ancient history which flips the guided tour experience on its head. You will help guide various spirits to their gods and ancient time periods on an in-depth exploration of mythology and the afterlife.
What’s My Afterlife? runs on 27th October 2017 between 6:00pm – 8:30pm. All ages are welcome and adults go free, while child admission is just £5.
Just a 5-minute walk from Jurys Inn Sheffield
Get a grizzly look at your own physiology with an evening dedicated to parasites, pandemics and pathogens that can affect the human body. Live Late Halloween Special: The Horror Within lets you delve into the darker world of medicine with a series of talks from university scientists, live experiments, guided tours and gruesome activities. There is also an onsite bar – if you still have the stomach for it.
Admission is open to anyone over the age of 18, with a recommended donation of £3 in place of a fee.
