Opening in 2002 in an old converted flour mill, the iconic BALTIC Centre is a large art gallery that provides visitors with a large calendar of exhibitions and new work projects. The centre was also the venue for the 2011 Turner Prize, attracting a record 149,000 visitors. The BALTIC Centre is only a stone’s throw away from our hotel in Gateshead Quays.
This fantastic music centre has everything from concerts by popular artists to tours, conferences and events. You’re even able to participate in activities for all age groups.
Metrocentre Gateshead is Europe’s largest shopping and leisure centre. With over 300 outlets as well as brilliant leisure facilities and restaurants, it’s the perfect place for a bit of retail therapy, and is only a 15 minute drive from our hotel in Gateshead.
If you take the A1 road into NewcastleGateshead, you’ll see the Angel of the North. This sculpture has been standing for almost 19 years and is a massive 66 feet tall with wings that measure 177 feet across. One famous incident involving the Angel of the North was in 1998, when it was dressed in a Newcastle United shirt with famous striker Alan Shearer’s name on the back.
