Find hotels near English cricket venues

The England Summer Cricket season will kick off early in May and will continue to run until September. 

Lord’s, Edgbaston, Trent Bridge and The Kia Oval will stage Investec Test Matches as England bid to regain the famous Ashes urn and win a fourth successive home Ashes series following their previous triumphs in 2005, 2009 and 2013.

After the Ashes, England and Australia will do battle again before the international season comes to a close in September.

A list of fixtures will be available on the ECB England Summer Fixtures page and if you’re staying with Leonardo Hotels during the cricket action, here’s some info on the venues:

Emirates Old Trafford Lancashire County Cricket Club

Aside from football, Lancashire is well known for its association with cricket and is one of the best clubs in cricket history. The Lancashire Cricket Club team play their home games at Emirates Old Trafford, which is also the home of football giants Manchester United.

Leonardo Hotel Manchester Central is ideally located just a 10 minute drive from Old Trafford Stadium, or alternatively, you can get there by tram. The tram stop is just across the road from our Manchester hotel and is also around a 10 - 15 minute journey.

Edgbaston Cricket Ground

Situated just outside Birmingham’s city centre, Edgbaston is home to Warwickshire County Cricket Club and is used for Test matches and other internationals. The stadium hosts up to 25,000 spectators and is the second biggest cricket ground in the United Kingdom. Leonardo Hotel Birmingham is just a 10 minute drive from Edgbaston Cricket ground. Public transport is also available by taking a bus from Sheepcote Street, which takes approximately 20 minutes and stops directly outside the ground.

Kia Oval Cricket Ground

Located south of the River Thames is the Oval Cricket Ground, one of the oldest cricket grounds in Britain. You can catch Surrey County Cricket club play their home games here and are likely to see the final match of the Test season played here. Leonardo Hotel London Croydon is approximately a 45 minute drive to Kia Oval Stadium, or alternatively you can take public transport which will take approximately 40 - 50 minutes. The easiest way is to take the train or underground from East Croydon to Vauxhall or Oval Station depending on what lines are running at the time of travel. It is just a 5 minute walk minute walk to the Kia Oval Cricket Ground from Oval station and a 10 minute walk from Vauxhall station.

Trent Bridge

Trent Bridge is a well-known cricket venue in the heart of Nottingham for hosting The Ashes Test Series and the home ground for Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club.

Our hotel in Nottingham is the ideal location if you’re heading to Trent Bridge. Travelling by car will take just 5 minutes from the hotel or alternatively you can take the bus from Nottingham Railway Station which takes approximately 15 minutes. If you decide to go by foot, a gentle stroll will only take 25 minutes from Leonardo Hotel Nottingham.

Headlingley Carnegie Stadium

Headlingley Stadium is the home ground for the Yorkshire County Cricket Club and also a host stadium for the Ashes Test matches. The ground is also home to Leeds Rhinos rugby league team.

The stadium is just a 15 minute drive from Leonardo Hotel Leeds or alternatively you can take the number 19 bus from York Street which takes 30 minutes and stops outside the ground.  

Emirates Riverside Cricket Ground

Emirates Riverside Cricket Ground is the home ground for the Durham County Cricket Club.  The club played their first first - class game at Emirates back in 1995.

The stadium is 35 miles from Leonardo Hotel Middlesbrough.  If you are travelling by car it will take 41 minutes from the hotel.
