Claire Livingston, General Manager of Jurys Inn Edinburgh has just picked up her second award this year at the hospitality industry Acorn Awards, which recognise only 30 of the brightest prospects in the industry every year.
Claire, 29, from Galashiels in the Scottish Borders, is Jurys Inn youngest General Manager, having started her career with the company in 2006 as Sales Manager. She also, earlier this year, won Rising Star Hotel Manager of the Year, at the Scottish Hotel Awards, an award, which, not only recognises exceptional performance but also serves to highlight up and coming talent in the hotel industry.
The 30 winners of the Acorn Awards, now in its 26th year, come from across the hospitality industry, from hotels (budget to five-star), restaurants and contract catering companies.
Says Jennifer Lee, Jurys Inn, HR Director: “It is so very rewarding to see employees like Claire, that have joined us early in their careers, not only realise their potential but win a string of prestigious awards. At Jurys Inn we are continually assessing and evolving our training programme to challenge and engage our teams at all levels. However, it is down to Claire’s own hard work and commitment to the job that has seen her rise up through the ranks and be recognised in this way. We are all extremely proud of Claire and give her our heartfelt congratulations.”
Jurys Inn is the only international hotel group to have received the Gold Award from Investors In People. The gold accreditation is one of only nine awarded to UK companies. The Investors in People report described the Jurys Inn group as a cutting edge organisation operating at the very highest levels of people management practice. Jurys Inn was commended for its commitment to employees by championing internal promotion, with 90% of current Jurys Inn General Managers being promoted from within.
Jurys Inn runs a GROW Graduate training scheme which will begin recruiting again this November 2012. A fast track programme which, allows graduates to take the transition from education to full time employment within the hospitality industry. The programme recruits 20 new graduates every year to work across its 32 hotels located in the UK, Ireland and Czech Republic. Applicants are expected to have a hospitality-related degree or relevant work experience.
Jurys Inn believes in employing and training people from all backgrounds, with a focus on recruiting people with a great hospitality attitude and train them for the skills required. Irrespective of the level that an employee enters there are a variety of career options within the company to encourage the achievement of their personal goals through skill development, building practical and theoretical expertise.
