Tis the season to get active! We love giving our guests tips on the best things to see and do in our cities so we’ve come up with our top ten running trails. In part 1, we will be sharing our top running and walking trails to discover in Galway, Glasgow, Dublin, Brighton and Exeter.

Running and walking around the local area is great if you want to see the sights or even come across some hidden gems. There’s no better way to explore a new city than to set off by foot.

Some of our guests also like to keep up their fitness regime when travelling and with marathon season just around the corner, we thought we would put together our top 5 running trail suggestions so you can try these out when you’re on the go.

So without further ado, here are out top 5 five suggested running trails.

Galway

Located on Irelands west coast, our Galway hotel has beautiful views overlooking Galway Bay. We recommend starting your run from Jurys Inn Galway and head towards the Salthill Promenade which is a 15 minute walk from the hotel. The Salthill Prom is approximately 2 miles long and is the ideal location for jogging or walking. You’ll enjoy breath-taking views of the Atlantic Ocean and one of the local traditions is to kick the wall once you reach the end of the Promenade before heading back to Galway City.

Glasgow

Located just a 5 minute walk from our Glasgow hotel is Glasgow Green, which is one of the oldest parks in the city and is the perfect setting for a stroll or jog. Start off at the park entrance at Saltmarket and continue around The People’s Palace and Winter Garden and then take a left which will lead you onto the River Clyde. This is the perfect way to kick-start your day.

Dublin

Our Jurys Inn Custom House hotel is located on Custom House Quay which is centrally situated in the heart of Dublin. We recommend a run along the Quays, a stretch that runs along both sides of the River Liffey and is right on our hotels doorstep. You’ll pass many famous landmarks on your way including the Ha’penny Bridge, the Samuel Beckett Bridge, The Convention Centre, The Four Courts and Wood Quay (considered to be an old Viking settlement in Dublin). We suggest starting your run early in the morning so you might be lucky to see the sun rise over Dublin!

Brighton

A walk or jog along the famous Brighton Seafront is a favourite amongst the locals and is a great way to discover the city. The seafront is just a 20 minute walk away from our hotel in Brighton and is the starting point for the annual Brighton Marathon. Enjoy the picturesque views along the renowned seaside town as you pass the Brighton Pier and Brighton Marina.

Exeter

We suggest the Quayside in Exeter as the best place to run or jog in the city. Our hotel is situated just a 15 minute walk to the Quays which has a 1.5 mile stretch for running along the Quayside. The surface is completely flat which is ideal for those planning to pick up the pace for a brisk walk or run.

So the next time you’re travelling, whether it’s for business or pleasure, be sure to pack those running shoes and hit the great outdoors for some fresh air and exercise.

Keep your eyes posted for the 2nd part of our running trails blog where we will be sharing our next top 5 running trail suggestions!
