Family Fun: Easter Crafts & Activities Mar 03
Email a Friend

The Easter holidays are soon upon us, which means it’s time for some family fun, whether getting stuck in with arts and crafts, playing lots of games, or indulging in lots and lots of chocolate!

There’s plenty of things to see and do over this holiday, from egg decorating and egg hunts to local fairs and craft workshops, giving you and your kids the chance to get creative and enjoy some quality time together. To give you some Easter planning ideas, we’ve put together a selection of crafts, activities, and events to do with the kids.

Easter Egg Decorating

Crochet Eggs

Decorating eggs has long been an Easter tradition, fun for both kids and adults – who knew hard boiled eggs could provide hours of entertainment? Getting the kids around the table, painting funky patterns, making a mess with glitter, glue, ribbon, and anything else in the arts and crafts cupboard – it’s the perfect afternoon activity!

It doesn’t all have to be paint and glitter – there are plenty of different ways to make eggs look egg-cellent! Use chalkboard paint and chalk to draw doodles and funny messages on your eggs – wash it off and start again with something new. Temporary tattoos can bring shells to life, and if you’re handy with a crochet hook, you could always crochet little egg covers with colourful patterns! Browse this list of Easter Egg Decorating Ideas for even more inspiration.

Easter Egg Hunt

 Easter Egg Hunt

Nothing says Easter like an egg hunt – it’s fun, challenging, and ends with lots of chocolate! There are a few things you can try to make your hunt extra special – try giving the hunt a theme with decorations, costumes, and clues, or colour code the eggs so each colour is worth a certain amount of points.

You could also add letters to the eggs and let the kids form their own words, with the longest word winning a prize, or you could even draw up a map and make it a real treasure hunt! You might want to set some search area boundaries so no-one gets lost, or have a maximum number of eggs each child can collect so everyone gets the same amount. Take a look at these Easter Egg Hunt Tips for more ideas and techniques.

If you don’t want to host your own egg hunt this year, the National Trust Cadbury Easter Egg Hunts up and down the country, are a great day out either enjoying the great outdoors and natural landscapes or exploring historical sites as you search for those Easter eggs!

Easter Games and Activities

Throwing an Easter party can be a fun way to celebrate the occasion and get the kids involved in some Easter games away from the digital screens. Print out Easter-themed cards or puzzles for the younger kids and play games like snap and dominoes – or if you’re feeling creative you could make your very own board games using these ideas as a starting point.

For the older kids, you can set up an egg-and-spoon race or an egg-toss - just don’t forget the prize! Mini Easter eggs or chocolate bunnies can be good prizes for lucky winners.

Easter Crafts

 Easter Hat

Easter is the perfect time to get the arts and crafts kit out, and get the kids engaged and creative with their hands. Spruce up plain wicker-baskets with card, paper, foil, and glitter for their very own personalised Easter egg hunt baskets, use paper plates and rubber bands to make colourful bunny masks, create an Easter egg garland, make bunny ears or mini Easter basket favours- the possibilities are endless!

For a more traditional angle, you could even decorate old hats or cut ones out from paper and create some Easter bonnets – explore more Easter crafts ideas.
