The 2011 Manchester Comedy Festival will take place October 17 through 31. It is an annual comedy show focused primarily on stand-up comedy. It has been going strong since it started in 2005 and it is always held during the last two weeks of October.

There are currently 150 events that will take place across 24 different venues. They estimate that by the time the festival starts, there will be over 200 events at 30 venues. The venues that are hosting shows this year include Apotheca, the Royal Northern College of Music, Frog and Bucket, the Opera House, The Dancehouse, The Comedy Store, and the Zion Arts Theater. Tickets must be booked separately for all events. You can search for shows on the 2011 festival web site both by comedian and by venue.

The comedians performing this year include Adam Buxton, Andy Parsons, Rob Brydon, Paddy McGuinness, Richard Herring, Jimeoin, Ivor Dembina, Peter Kay, Tommy Tiernan, and most notably co-creator of the television series The Office Stephen Merchant. Additionally, you don't want to miss Kevin Shepherd who will be narrating his life story through the cars that he's owned, Harriet Dyer who is convinced that her life is modified version of The Truman Show, Nellie White who will be giving a history of pornography, and Oliver Meech's magic show which includes both comedic and mind-reading magic.

Past notable comedians who have performed at the Manchester Comedy Festival include Joan Rivers, Lenny Henry, Jimmy Carr, Ian Cognito, Dave Spikey, Justin Moorhouse, Gina Yashere, Reginald D. Hunter, Jason Manford, Patrick Kielty, Richard Herring, Patrick Monahan, Mick Ferry, Alan Carr, Chris Addison, Brendon Burns, Lewis Costello, Russell Brand, and Doug Stanhope.
