In 2013, we celebrate 20 years of Jurys Inn hotels. We opened our first two hotels in 1993 in Ireland, and over the years have opened hotels as far as Prague in the Czech Republic. It’s been a wonderful 20 years that we hope to build on and provide all of our guests with affordable, comfortable accommodation for many years to come.

Although the name Jurys Inn is only 20 years old, our origins were a lot earlier. Here are a few events that have taken Jurys Inn hotels where we are today.

1839 – William Jurys opened a guesthouse at 7 College Green, Dublin. The guesthouse was intended as commercial lodgings, similar to many of Jurys Inns rooms today.

1866 – William Jury sells the hotel to his cousin Henry James Jurys, who expands the hotel and renames it the Jurys Hotel.

1918 – Jurys Hotel is requisitioned by the British Army during the Irish War of Independence.

1922 – Jurys Hotel is taken over by a group of businessmen.

1972 – After opening hotels in Westport and Sligo, Jurys sells off its properties and reforms as a new company in order to acquire hotels in Dublin, Cork and Limerick.

1986 – Jurys goes public on the Irish Stock Exchange.

1993 – The first hotel under the Jurys Inns brand opens in Galway in April. It is soon proceeded the following month with the opening of a hotel in Christchurch, Dublin. Both hotels are still going strong today.

1997 – A Jurys Inn is opened in Limerick as well as the first British Jurys Inn in Belfast. There are now 6 hotels in total, with a further hotel in Dublin and one in Cork opened in previous years.

1998 – Jurys Inn opens a hotel in Islington, London. This is the first Jurys Inn in England, but by no means the last.

1999 – Jurys Inns acquires luxury hotel chain Doyle Hotels to become the Jurys Doyle Hotel Group, the largest hotel group in Ireland. With the acquisition, Jurys Doyle now have an international hotel portfolio.

2007 – Jurys Inn are taken over by Quinlan Private and separated from the Doyle Hotel collection.

2008 – Oman Investment Fund acquires 50% of Jurys Inn.

2009 – Jurys Inn Prague, our first hotel on mainland Europe, is opened.

2011 – The opening of our latest hotel, Jurys Inn NewcastleGateshead Quays,

2013 – Jurys Inn celebrates the 20th anniversary of the opening of its first hotel.
