Things to do in Plymouth

To help plan your trip to this beautiful historic city, we’ve put together a list of our favourite things to do in and around Plymouth. For more tips, make sure you have a chat with our friendly and knowledgeable staff who will only be too happy to offer their advice.

Royal William Yard

Located on the waterfront, the Royal William Yard is home to beautiful listed military buildings with restaurants, bars and galleries. Whether you’re sipping a cocktail looking out over the sea or enjoying a romantic evening meal, Royal William Yard is a must-visit.

We recommend: visiting the Good Food Market, which takes place on the first Sunday of the month from 10am-3pm.

Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park

Located just outside the city on the Rame Peninsula, Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park spans over 865 acres of parkland and encompasses miles of beautiful coastline. To get there, catch the number 34 bus from the Royal Parade, and catch the Cremyll foot ferry from the Plymouth Stonehouse Ferry Terminal.

We recommend: trying out Disc Golf, a unique frisbee style sport played across 13 holes.

Plymouth City Market

Explore a traditional local market in the heart of Plymouth, with over 100 stalls of fresh, locally sourced foods, family-run stalls. From flowers to clothes, electronics and even antiques, Plymouth City Market offers a truly local experience, just a 13 minute walk from our hotel.

We recommend: parking behind the market for just £1 per hour, if you’re taking a car.

National Marine Aquarium

If you’re visiting Plymouth with children, they’ll love visiting the National Marine Aquarium. See the sharks, walk through the underwater tunnel, and take part in the brilliant feeding sessions for an unforgettable family day out.

We recommend: going along to the ‘Octofactor’ show, featuring in the aquarium’s resident giant octopus.

Plymouth Sound

To really appreciate the natural beauty of Plymouth, a visit to Plymouth Sound is a must. Take a walk along the coast, starting at Andurn Point and heading towards Mount Batten Point, and don’t forget to take a camera.

We recommend: looking out for the red and green coloured sandstone rocks.

Smeaton’s Tower

Located on Plymouth Hoe overlooking the water, the red and white striped Smeaton’s Tower is a lighthouse that’s open to visitors. Climb up the steep steps and ladders into the lantern room for views across the Sound and the city.

We recommend: keeping your feet firmly on the ground if you’re scared of heights!

Exploring beyond Plymouth

If you’re staying with us for a few days or more, there’s plenty of time to explore beyond the city. Here are our pick of the best things to see and do just a short drive or day trip from Plymouth.
