I have not worked in a hotel before, how do I get into the industry?
It is always an advantage if you have had previous experience in the hospitality and leisure industries, be it in a hotel, a restaurant, a bar or club, a coffee shop, a cinema or a casino to name a few, but you do not necessarily need this to work for Jurys Inn. Our business is all about looking after people, so when we recruit, we look for people who can demonstrate a passion for providing excellent customer service to our guests and enjoy working in a busy, fast-paced environment and who display the right personal qualities for working in the industry. If Jurys Inn was a person, they would be friendly, genuine, positive, consistent and willing to go that extra mile and this is what we look for.
Sometimes it depends on what position you are applying for. Specialist roles such as Human Resources, Accounts and Maintenance where skills and knowledge are transferable, do not require you to have previous experience in the hospitality industry.
How can I progress within the company?
At Jurys Inn, we encourage our employees to progress in their careers and have some great success stories from around the business. There are several ways you can progress within the company. Many of our employees work their way up to supervisory and management level roles from entry-level positions such as Guest Service Staff in our Food & Beverage, Front Office and Accommodation departments. Others join the business on our fast-track Graduate Programme, moving around different departments and Jurys Inn properties to progress into management or Head of Department roles.
Some of our employees have moved from operational departments to functional back office departments such as Finance, Human Resources, Database & Distribution, Sales and Revenue. GROW is our learning & development brand which offers tailored training and development courses depending on your current and future role in the organisation: GROW Team; GROW Supervisors; GROW Graduates; GROW Managers and GROW Leaders.

What training will I receive?
From your very first day with us, we will ensure that you receive all the training you need to carry out your role. BELONG, our employee induction programme covers a variety of training modules to help you become familiar with your new surroundings and to give you knowledge on how we do things within the company. BELONG includes modules such as Company Welcome, Fire Safety, Health & Safety, Manual Handling, Cash Handling, Key Security, Chemical Safety, Food Handling, Licensing and our special guest service training, BE Exceptional and BE Empowered. Your induction programme also includes daily on-the-job training to help develop your skills and experience in your department and each job role has its own Job Skills Checklist to allow you to monitor your own learning & Development.

What are the hours like?
Jurys Inn encourages its employees to embrace a healthy work-life balance and unlike many other hospitality establishments, we offer our employees straight shifts as opposed to split-shifts and ensure that all employees receive the rest breaks they are entitled to. The hospitality industry has a reputation for long working hours and on occasion, you may be required to work overtime, which is compensated by time off in lieu.
Will I receive a Uniform?
All employees who work in Jurys Inn properties receive a uniform. Head Office and employees who work in our Customer Contact Centre are not required to wear a uniform, but must dress smartly in ‘business dress' attire.
For chefs, you have the choice of either wearing your own chef whites or wearing chefs uniform provided by the company.
What support/feedback will I receive in my first few weeks?
Starting a new job can be daunting, so we place great importance on providing our new employees with the training, support and feedback they need to confidently carry out their job role. The first 6 months of your employment with us is your probationary period, which is designed to help you to settle into your new role. During your probationary period, you will receive career reviews at 30 days and 90 days into the job in additional to the learning & development on the BELONG Induction Programme to give you the opportunity to receive feedback on how you are doing but also for you to update us on how you are finding your new job and what additional support or training you may need. Towards the end of your probationary period, you will receive a 6-month review to officially confirm your appointment and to provide you with another opportunity to obtain feedback on how you are performing in your role. You will receive another career review at 12 months and annually thereafter.
What are the pay and benefits like?
We offer competitive rates within the hospitality sector and rates vary depending on the position available. Do you offer internships / work placements?
Yes, we do have opportunities for students to undertake paid and unpaid internships and work placements in our hotels. We typically accept students who are studying a relevant qualification in Hospitality, Tourism, Leisure or Management who are looking to gain practical experience of working in the industry. Placements are usually paid and last from 6 to 12 months. To enquire about what internship / placement opportunities are available, please contact the HR Department of the specific hotel of where you would like to work during your internship / placement. Do you sponsor work permits for candidates from outside of the EEA?
Jurys Inns is a Grade A sponsor licence holder, any candidates from outside the European Economic Area who require to be sponsored must ensure they meet the points criteria relevant for that position before applying.
