Churches in Glasgow

Glasgow Cathedral

The spectacular Glasgow Cathedral is the ideal place to hold an unforgettable wedding. This medieval cathedral not only holds the record as the oldest building in Glasgow, but is also the oldest cathedral in Mainland Scotland. The cathedral conforms to traditional Scottish gothic architectural style, and was constructed in the late 12th century, making it a unique and awe-inspiring backdrop for your wedding photographs.

The interior of the cathedral follows the classic medieval style, but also has one of the largest and most intricate collections of postwar stained-glass windows in Britain. Located in the centre of Glasgow, the cathedral is the perfect venue for couples looking for a quintessentially Glaswegian wedding right in the heart of the city.

Built in the late 19th century, St Mary’s Cathedral is an A-Listed building with an impressive 63 metre steeple. Raised to cathedral status in 1908, the church is a fine example of the Scottish Gothic Revival in architecture, and is often cited as being one of the most beautiful landmarks in the city.

If you’re looking for a less conventional (but every bit as spectacular) place to get married, Oran Mor could be the ideal place to hold your wedding ceremony. This former church was built in 1862 in the classic Victorian style, with awe-inspiring arches, giant columns and a magnificent spire. Ideal for wedding photos, the main room features a beautiful glass ceiling mural designed by Alasdair Grey – a renowned Scottish artist and writer.

Oran Mor has been converted into a bar, restaurant and event venue, and is a fascinating and unique place to hold a rehearsal dinner prior to the big day.
