These days, smartphones and tablets are as much a part of the business person’s travelling kit as a toothbrush and a good book. Of course, it’s the humble app that’s made the world fall in love with these gadgets – and, mercifully, there are any number that are tailor-built to make travel for business that little bit easier.

Business apps for the forgetful among us

If you're a serious traveller, you’ll have learned to keep confirmation numbers for every flight, car booking, hotel and restaurant reservation close to hand. This app provides an easier way to do all that: save some paper and start forwarding your confirmation emails to a TripIt account instead. The app will create and store your itinerary with everything you need for your trip just a touch away.

We love this surprisingly simple concept. ICarPark is a little application that chronicles where you parked your car. Facilities include noting of the level and the row in a parking garage, and mapping out the distance and direction your car is from you if you parked on the street. Our favourite feature is that this app cleverly keeps track of any meters running so you never arrive back to a parking fine. We think this app is especially handy when attending meetings in an unfamiliar city. If you’re attending a meeting near a Jurys Inn location, we’re happy to help with parking queries, too.

Practical apps to make business trips that little bit easier

No matter where you are in the world, there will always be times when you’re waiting for someone’s flight to land – and if you’re usually the one picking them up, this is the app for you. FlightBoard accesses up-to-date arrivals and departures boards for airports all around the U.K. and the rest of the world. Just open the app and find out instantly if the person you're picking up is delayed or when the next flight out is expected to depart- all at the touch of a button.

What’s the one business essential none of us could do without? Wi-Fi of course! If you need a wireless hotspot quickly, this nifty application can help you find both free and paid Wi-Fi hotspots in over 114 different countries, including the United Kingdom. A map shows the closest locations offering Wi-Fi. JiWire boasts over 650,000 Wi-Fi hotspot locations, so there’s bound to be one where you need it.

Business apps for the money-minded

XE Currency

This app is a must-have among our business guests. When travelling to a country with an unfamiliar currency, XE can help you determine pricing in relation to your own currency in a matter of seconds. Discover the current exchange rates for more than 180 worldwide currencies and find out if that meal’s reasonable enough to defend on your expense report, or if you're getting ripped off at the dry cleaners.

Expenses: the bane of business travellers the world over. If you travel often and hate the chore of filling out expense reports when you're back in the office, fret no more: this app allows you to do it on the move. No more losing receipts or trying to remember where you ate dinner on the first night of the trip. The smart part? If your office uses a compatible reimbursement system, you can even submit your report directly from your phone.

The above apps are useful, but sometimes we all like to speak to a real person. At Jurys Inn, we’re happy to help in any way we can with your business travel queries.
