As a metropolitan borough of Merseyside, England, Liverpool is only the 4th largest city in the United Kingdom, it was named the European Capital of Culture in 2008. Particularly, Liverpool is known for its musical heritage. Musicians from Liverpool are responsible for 56 number 1 singles, the most of any city. Moreover, Liverpool was the birthplace of The Beatles, one of the most successful and critically acclaimed musical groups in history, and the Beat music movement during the 1960s. Following this musical tradition is the Liverpool Music Week 2010, the UK's biggest winter music festival held indoors.

Liverpool Music Week 2010

Running from October 23rd throughout November, Liverpool Music Week 2010 promises to be one of the most exciting music festivals in the world. Liverpool Music Week got its start in 2003, and in subsequent years, quickly earned international recognition. One of its staple features is free live music. Although the festival combines both free and ticketed music, it works to make as many acts as possible free. Liverpool Music Week 2009 was recently nominated for the Best UK Metropolitan Festival award, and its 2010 counterpart promises to be the best Liverpool Music Week yet, touting approximately 880 events that incorporate 400 live bands.

One of the most prominent acts scheduled for Liverpool Music Week 2010 is Leftfield, a British electronic duo whose debut album, Leftism, was proclaimed to be one of the greatest ever by Q Magazine. Also, Chase and Status, who are currently promoting their latest hit, Let You Go, will be headlining. A third Liverpool Music Week 2010 icon will be K'Naan. K'Naan is a Somalian poet turned rapper whose hit, Waving Flag, was named the official song of the 2010 World Cup.
