Event Information

The race is often considered to be the world's most famous half-marathon event. The event is sometimes also referred to as the Bupa Great North Run, though the event is now sponsored by Morrisons. The race attracts more than 50,000 runners yearly. More than 57,000 runners took part in the 2014 event. Many Olympic medallists and track stars participate in the race every year.

The race garners a lot of media attention every year and it is scheduled to be broadcast live on BBC television and BBC Radio 5 on the day of the event. People are also welcome to line the race route to watch the event. The race starts in Newcastle upon Tyne and ends in South Shields. There is no cost to view the race. People should keep in mind that is it very hard to find hotel rooms in and around Newcastle during the week of the race. If you did not book far in advance you will likely end up paying very high hotel fees.
