If you’re planning a romantic weekend getaway, Scotland’s second city should be one of your top picks. Here are our top ideas for the most enchanting dates in Glasgow.

Explore Ashton Lane

Enjoy the West End nightlife on this picturesque, cobbled backstreet strung with twinkling fairy lights. Among the bars and restaurants, there’s also The Grosvenor Cinema, built in 1921 and still showing a mixture of blockbuster and art-house films. Continue North onto Cresswell Lane to browse a selection of small, specialist and independent shops.

Climb the Lighthouse

The Lighthouse was the first commission of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and is a quintessential Glasgow landmark. As Scotland’s centre for Design and Architecture, it serves as a visitor centre, exhibition space and events venue. Climb the Helical Staircase inside the original water tower and enjoy uninterrupted views across the city from the outdoor viewing platform.

Indulge in a romantic meal

Glasgow’s culinary scene is packed with award-winning restaurants. For an authentically Scottish menu in an intimate and cosy atmosphere, try the Wee Lochan. The more extravagant, art deco style of The Rogano creates a perfect romantic setting for fresh fish and seafood specials or Oysters and Cocktails at their bar.

Take some time to relax

Step through the Tramway to discover an oasis in Glasgow’s Pollockshields district. The Hidden Garden is filled with flowers, herbs and more and hosts events and activities for the local community. Take a deep breath and enjoy wandering the urban garden together in companionable calm.

Go for a cruise

Get a unique view of Glasgow from the water. Choose to float down the River Clyde while enjoying a highly romantic Prosecco Afternoon Tea or buy an explorer ticket to get a closer look at attractions including The Tall Ship, Braehead and Dumbarton Castle.

Or take a walk

Wander through the 85 acres of Kelvingrove Park hand in hand, keeping your eyes open for Kingfishers, Herons and monuments. The park is home to the world-renowned Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum which has over 20 galleries to explore. It’s stunning architecture also makes it a popular Glasgow wedding venue close to our West End Hotel.

Get a bit cheesy

If you’re not quite ready for wedding planning, Fondue Night at Brel always makes for a fun date. Share a pot of delicious, gooey cheese under romantic fairy lights every Tuesday evening. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, split a melted milk or dark chocolate Dessert Fondue instead.

Catch a show

From the historic King’s Theatre Glasgow and Glasgow Pavillion Theatre to The Royal Concert Hall or modern SEC Armadillo, one of the fantastic venues in Glasgow will have a show that you and your partner can enjoy together.

Or just enjoy a drink together

Whether you fancy a romantic shared cocktail in a cosy booth at Tabac or a pint in the Glasgow institution Waxy O’Connor’s, there’s a bar for every couple to enjoy here. You can even watch a less traditional, burlesque or cabaret show at the Riding Room.

Visit Saint Valentine’s relic

No romantic getaway to Glasgow would be complete without a trip to see Saint Valentine’s relic. Donated to the Franciscan Church in 1868, the small wooden box labelled Corpus Valentini Martyris can now be found just inside the entrance of St John Duns Scotus Church and is a much-loved Glasgow proposal spot.
