Things to do | Posted 29 Jul 2012

Our staff members at Leonardo Hotel Plymouth have been busy coming up with five of the best things to do while on your stay in Plymouth. It’s been tough trying to whittle down the selection and, after much debate and a couple of arguments, they’ve done it.

Ok, ok, they haven’t quite limited it to five events/ places but they have limited it to five headings. So here you go!

Family Fun

Plymouth is a bustling waterfront city, so it’s only right it has a large aquarium. The National Marine Aquarium is, in fact, Britain’s largest aquarium and, with over 4,000 marine fish to see, it is definitely worth a visit for children and adults alike.

Free Stuff

You can’t come to Plymouth without visiting its heart – Plymouth Hoe. It’s got some stunning views of the harbour, and is also home to Smeaton’s Tower Lighthouse, as well as the Big Wheel for the summer. Entry into the lighthouse isn’t free, but it does cost as little as £2.50 for adults and £1 for children.

Our staff love free events, and the British Firework Championships take place at Plymouth Hoe on the 14th and 15th of August. Six companies will battle it out to be crowned champions, so we are guaranteed some spectacular sights!

Splash Out

If you have some spare cash and would like to buy something nice, Drake Circus is Plymouth’s most popular shopping centre. With over 70 shops, from Build a Bear Workshop to Zara, you can spend as little or as much as you like and truly immerse yourself shopping in Plymouth.

Evening Entertainment

Business travellers who want to unwind in the evening will find much to do in the Barbican area of the city. Black Friars Distillery in particular is worth a visit. If you have time, tours of the distillery are held up until 4.30pm daily. If not, the Refectory Cocktail Lounge, which is located within the historic refectory building of the distillery, remains open until 11pm.

Don’t Miss…

Located in Plymouth’s city centre, the annual Christmas Market runs this year from the 22nd of November until the 24th of December. Shoppers can enjoy ticking off that Christmas list with some great crafts and gifts while indulging in some delicious crepes and mulled wine. A perfect day out for all the family to enjoy!
