Dublin is the world's centre for St. Patrick's Day festivities. It's rich cultural heritage and large population make the annual government sponsored St. Patrick's Festival a sight to behold, and its many neighbourhoods hold St. Patrick's day events that are equally impressive. One of these festivals is the Temple Bar Fleadh Festival held in mid-March in the Temple Bar area. This Fleadh, or informal demonstration of traditional Irish music, is held annually, normally between the 15th and 17th of March. Anyone planning to be in Dublin during mid-March of this year should not miss the Temple Bar Fleadh Festival.

Temple Bar Having existed since at least 1673, Temple Bar is an area in central Dublin that has a long and rich cultural history. Unlike the majority of Dublin, Temple Bar has maintained its renaissance era, narrow and cobbled street orientation. Contemporary Temple Bar is renowned for its rich night life and for being a tourist destination. It is home to many staples of Irish culture, including the Irish Film Institute, the Irish Photography Center, the Temple Bar Music Center and the Ark Children's Cultural Center. Temple Bar's tourism friendly, pub oriented atmosphere make it an ideal location for the Temple Bar Fleadh Festival.

The Temple Bar Fleadh Festival

The Temple Bar Fleadh Festival is held in addition to Dublin's massive St. Patrick's Festival, which hosts a large scale parade as well as a great number of musical and theatrical events that exemplify Irish heritage. It is loosely organized, and free to the general public. The Temple Bar Fleadh Festival is an event in which Ireland's traditional music heritage is showed off by pubs hosting small scale concerts. The traditional instruments normally demonstrated include the bodhran, fife, flute, bagpipe and fiddle. In addition, the 2011 Temple Bar Fleadh Festival will feature one large scale concert in one of Temple Bar's beautiful squares.
