Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet On the outskirts of Sheffield, the Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet is a living museum which demonstrates working machinery from the 19th century. The museum consists of dwellings and industrial works showing how life used to be. The museum is open from Sunday to Thursday.
Bishops' House The Bishops' House, one of the few remaining timber-framed houses, was constructed sometime around the turn of the 16th century. Amazingly, the house served as a dwelling until 1974, and it is now a museum about life in Sheffield during the 16th and 17th centuries. It opens to the public on weekends.
Fire & Police Museum The Fire & Police Museum, the largest volunteer operated museum in the United Kingdom, opened in 1983 to exhibit the emergency services heritage in the Sheffield community. The museum is open on Sundays and bank holidays.
Graves Gallery Graves Gallery is located in the center of the city and displays collections of British and European art mostly from the 19th and 20th centuries. Each Friday, the museum offers sessions for interested and budding artists to explore the techniques and materials used by the artists displayed in the collections. The museum is open from Wednesday to Saturday.
Millennium Gallery The Millennium Gallery is one of the newest museums in Sheffield. Opened in 2001, the gallery displays works from designers, craftsmen, the metal industries in Sheffield, and the works collected by John Ruskin in the 19th century. The museum is also connected to the beautiful Sheffield Winter Garden. It is open year round.
Kelham Island Museum Built on a man-made island which is over 900 years old, the Kelham Island Museum houses artifacts covering science and the history of the Industrial Revolution in Sheffield. There are regular demonstrations of the powerful River Don Engine, a steam engine built in 1905. The museum is open from Sunday to Thursday.
Weston Park Museum The historic Weston Park Museum, opened in 1875, has permanent exhibitions covering decorative arts, treasures from around the world, and the natural and social history of Sheffield. The museum also hosts a range of traveling and temporary exhibitions throughout the year. The museum is open from Monday to Saturday.
