From March 31 to April 14, the Belfast Film Festival will celebrate its 11th anniversary, continuing its legacy of providing meaningful, thought-provoking films to travelers and Belfast locals alike. Showcasing local, Irish and international cinema, the 2011 Belfast Film Festival will feature a diverse offering of films in a variety of genres and styles.

The Belfast Film Festival has developed a reputation screening films in creative and innovative ways at a variety of venues across the city of Belfast. For instance, previous festivals have given spectators the ability to view films on a boat in the River Lagen, at Belfast Castle or with live piano accompaniment at Belfast's St. Anne's Cathedral. The Belfast Film Festival is also well-known for encouraging practical film making techniques as well as general film education. The Festival is not aligned with any one sociopolitical viewpoint, but is rather designed as a kind of forum for the exchange of different ideas regarding religious, social and cultural issues.

Every year, the Belfast Film Festival provides film fans with several gala screenings and world and Irish premieres. The 2010 festival featured premieres Triage, starring Colin Farrell and Christopher Lee and Tetro, directed by Francis Ford Copoll. The festival also had gala screenings of such films as Empire, Cupcake and Five Day Shelter, all by Irish and Northern Irish directors. Since 2006, the Belfast Film Festival's Maysles Brothers award has been given to the festival's documentaries in order to promote innovative, high-quality documentary film making. Past winners of the Maysles Brothers award include October Country, Presumed Guilty and End of the Rainbow.

If the festivals of years past are any indication, the 2011 Belfast Film Festival is set to provide its namesake city with a broad selection of provocative films, with offerings designed to appeal to a large number of filmgoers.
