If you happen to be traveling through the Czech Republic this summer, stop by the Verdi Festival Prague 2011. Started by the Prague State Opera in 1993, the program has started to feature works from a number of prominent artists. The two-week festival typically runs from late August until early September, if you are planning in visiting and need a hotel then check out the Leonardo Hotels range of hotels in Prague.

Giuseppe Verdi was born in Italy. He is considered one of the most influential composers of the 19th century. Popular works include the romantic operas Aida and La Traviata. Ciacomo Puccini has been the only other Italian composer to achieve similar success.

Dates for the 2011 festival are August 19 until August 31. Events are held at various locations throughout Prague. The festival features genres including jazz, opera and classical music. Festivities open with a performance of Verdi’s three-act opera, Rigoletto. Works from Dvorak and Tchaikovsky are also on the schedule. Start times range from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m., depending on the event. Ticket prices start at $22.98 and can be purchased online from Prague Experience. Tickets are also available for purchase at the State Opera House box office.

Enjoy additional cultural attractions while staying in Prague. Prague was founded in 200 Before Common Era. The city evolved into a European cultural, political and economic center. A number of historical locations including Prague Castle, Old Town Square and Jewish Quarter were not destroyed during twentieth century conflicts. Public transportation and rail systems facilitate travel throughout the city.

A number of overnight accommodations are walking distance from the city center. April to October marks high tourist season for Prague. Hostels and boat hotels, known as Botels, provide reasonably-priced accommodations. Private homes rent rooms to visitors. Luxury hotels provide visitors with an indulgent experience. The main train station, located at Hlavni nadrazi, offers a booking service for newly arrived guests.
