Manchester, England is home to some of the most vibrant nightlife in the world. Active support from local authorities as well as high public interest have led to massive economic expansion in Manchester's night-time entertainment sector since 1993. The city contains over 500 clubs, bars and venues that are capable of accommodating over 250,000 visitors, and support 12,000 local jobs. Accordingly, Manchester is home to one of the world's largest and most popular comedy festivals, the Manchester Comedy Festival.

The Manchester Comedy Festival

Traditionally, the Manchester Comedy Festival is held sometime during the last 2 weeks of October. Unlike a great deal of comedy festivals that feature a variety of stand up comedy, sketches and other performances, the Manchester Comedy Festival focuses on stand up comedy exclusively. Throughout its existence, the Manchester Comedy Festival has attracted some notable figures, including Joan Rivers, Russell Brand, Lewis Costello and Justin Moorhouse.

In 2010, the Manchester Comedy Festival will start on October 18th and finish on October 31st. Organizers boast that the 2010 Manchester Comedy Festival will be the best yet, featuring over 200 shows in 30 venues. Unlike previous Manchester Comedy Festivals, the 2010 show will run for a full 2 weeks, the longest ever. The 2010 Manchester Comedy Festival will feature some impressive acts, including Jimmy Carr, Piff the Magic Dragon, Russell Kane and Alexander Armstrong. Russell Kane is this year's winner of the Edinburgh Comedy Award, an impressive feat for any comedian.

The Manchester Comedy Festival organization will be celebrating its tenth anniversary for the 2010 festival, and have expanded the amount of acts from 83 to over 200, making it easy to find several comedians you'll enjoy. If you want a taste of Manchester's vibrant night life, make sure the Manchester Comedy Festival is marked on your travel calendar.
