BRANDS

Christmas in Birmingham is a very special time of year. Aside from being a bustling shopping hub, Birmingham's City Centre is awash with cafe's, bars and restaurants all joining in in the festivities and inviting weary shoppers into their nice, warm retreats away from the busy streets.

But even better; every year the city streets are transformed into a Winter wonderland, with the arrival of the Frankfurt Christmas Market. The market has become the highlight of the city’s events calendar and there is simply no escaping it! The specially-designed stalls stretch from Victoria Square in the heart of the city, down the length of New Street all the way to The Bullring Shopping Centre. Running from the 7th November to the 23rd December, and with most stalls being open from 10am-9pm, there is no excuse to miss it.

The markets are a brilliant way to spend an early afternoon or evening strolling through the streets and sampling the many, many delicacies on offer. If you like your food hearty, the Currywurst and 'Champignon' are particularly good. For those of you with a sweet tooth, there are more than enough treats to devour. Best of all though, beat the Winter chills by wrapping up warm in a nice beer blanket or warm the cockles with a fruity Gluhwein!

Great food and drink is a given at any ‘Christmas Market’ worth their salt, but the Frankfurt Market really has something for everyone. The market stalls are filled to the brim with trinkets and treats for you to wrap and give to your loved ones one the big day - my particular favourites are the ornamental toy soldiers, complete with crazy life-size teeth. And if you’re lucky enough that you get a touch of snow while you’re there, you’ll find plenty of stands selling extra hats, scarves and gloves.
