Performances and Events at August Féile 2010

The August Féile 2010 is one of Ireland’s biggest community specific festivals. From July 30th to August 8th, the August Féile 2010 event focuses on celebrating the people and culture of Ireland. The August Féile has been continually growing ever since its inaugural event back in August 1988. Currently, there are more bands, a bigger parade and more actives to participate in than ever before. The August Féile 2010 plans to bring over 50,000 participants to the Dunville park area in Belfast to create a festive party celebrating Irish life and culture.

August Féile 2010 will kick off with a concert by Damien Dempsey on July 30th at the Bank Square Marquee with a special appearance by a locally supported group of musicians. The festival will also include several other concerts by Everlast, Neville Staple, Michelle Shocked, Gemma Hayes and the Russian Chamber Philharmonic of St. Petersburg. Comedians Lenny Henry, Seamus Carabine and Bernard O’Shea will also make appearances at August Féile 2010 on the 5th of August.

August Féile 2010 will also be a center for critical discussions on human rights, journalism and local issues of Belfast. The festival aims to celebrate Irish literature with a variety of activities involving local writers, critics and educators. Discussions and literature activities will be supplemented with a host of various local and internationally flavored exhibitions to view during all eight days of August Féile 2010.

No Féile event is complete without the opening day carnival parade. Over 50,000 spectators, dancers and costume wearers are expected to make August Féile 2010’s carnival parade the best one yet. This year’s theme of monsters, myths and magic is sure to be a big hit with children, youngsters and adults alike.
