At the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 30, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra will perform works by Sibelius, Rachmaninov, and Grieg. The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra is under the direction of conductor Vasily Petenko. Tickets for this concert range in price from 11 Euros to 35 Euros.

The first piece on this program is the Peer Gynt Suit No. 1 by Grieg. This suite includes the movements Morning Mood, Aase's Death, Anitra's Dance, and In the Hall of the Mountain King, which is more than likely familiar to most people. Edvard Grieg was born in Norway, though he studied in Leipzig and was influenced by composers of many nationalities.

After that, Rachmaninov's forth piano concerto will be performed, featuring soloist Simon Trpceski on piano. This Macedonian born performer has performed with some of the most accomplished music of the western world. Rachmaninov's piano concerto is in three movements marked Allegro, Largo, and Allegro. Rachmaninov was born in Russia and was influenced by such Russian composers as Rimsky-Korsakov and Tchaikovsky.

The concert ends with Sibelius's First Symphony. This work is in four movements: Andante ma non troppo-Allegro energico, Andante, Scherzo, and Finale: Andante-Allegro molto- Andante assai- Allegro molto come prima- Andante. The piece incorporates many string and woodwind solos, including a long clarinet solo in the first movement. Jean Sibelius was a native of Finland and helped to create the musical identity for that nation.

This exciting concert features three of the most influential composers of their countries during the late romantic period of music. All are heavily influenced by Russian romanticism. Tickets for this event can be purchased online or at the box office. This performance is expected to last just under two hours.
