In the UK, perhaps no city has a better tradition of quality football than Liverpool. Home to both Liverpool FC and Everton FC, Liverpool provides football fans with entertainment nearly year round. In May 2011, both of these teams will take part in several home matches. While the teams are not scheduled to square off in the famous Merseyside derby, they will each face quality teams in the final stages of the 2010/2011 Barclay's Premier League season.

Liverpool FC will play their first home match in May against Newcastle Utd on May 1st. Currently 9th in the table to Liverpool's 6th, Newcastle Utd have had a successful return to the Premiership since winning promotion last season. Given how close the two teams are in the league table, this match is likely to be a quite competitive affair. Liverpool FC will go on to play their final home match of the season against Tottenham Hotspurs on May 15th. Tottenham are 5th in the table and along with Manchester City, are Liverpool's main challengers for the last Champions League qualification place. Tottenham are coming off the back of an excellent season in Europe an Champions League and in the Premiership, not to mention an excellent comeback against London rivals Arsenal in April. They will be determined to maintain their chances at Champions Leagues qualification. Die hard fans of Liverpool FC will not want to miss either match.

Everton FC play their first match in May at home on May 7th versus Man City. Currently 7th in the table, Everton are pushing for Europa League qualification. Man City are currently in 4th position and are pushing for Champions League qualification. Everton will then go on to play their final home game against Chelsea FC on May 22nd. Chelsea are currently 2nd in the premiership and are Manchester Utd's main challengers for the Premiership title and will see this as a must-win fixture for them.

It promises to be an exciting run in to the Premiership end for both Merseyside clubs, with both pushing for European qualification. For Liverpool FC, gaining European qualification would mean salvaging an otherwise disappointing season for them and building morale ahead ahead of next year's campaign. For Everton FC, it has been another steady season under David Moyes and European qualification would give them some confidence for next season.
