The Great Ireland Run is an annual foot race held in Dublin at Phoenix Park. Scheduled for April 10 2011, the race features different categories to facilitate varying levels of competitiveness. Sponsored by retail company SPAR, the Great Ireland Run Dublin 2011 maintains bronze label road race status with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). The race involves a 10 km course that starts at Chesterfield Avenue and ends on Furze Road. In 2010, the race had over 11,000 participants from a wide range of countries, and it's expected to attract even more competitors and running enthusiasts in 2011. Past races have seen appearances by professional marathon and cross country runners such as Meslech Melkamu, Sonia O'Sullivan, Paul Tergat and Catherina McKiernan.

Participants in the Great Ireland Run Dublin 2011 may choose a charity upon registration. By doing so, these individuals can raise money for the charity of their choice simply by paying the registration fee and participating in the race. Featured charities include the 3TS, Our Lady's Hospice and Care Services, and the Marie Keating Foundation. SPAR will also hold a similar event for young runners on April 10th called the Junior Great Ireland Run. Aimed at individuals between the ages of 8 and 15, this race is held on a smaller 2.5 km course at Phoenix Park prior to the Great Ireland Run. Children are encourage to represent their Province or school, but they may also run independently.

The Great Run Dublin 2011 begins at 1:00 PM on April 10 and is also set to serve as the Athletic Association of Ireland (AAI) National 10 km Championship. Entry to this event is now closed.
