Dublin is a historic city that offers worthwhile activities all year round. During summer, Dublin becomes the perfect destination for people looking to enjoy warm weather, clear blue skies and fantastic Irish hospitality. The big weekend Dublin Horse Show and Street Performance World Championship events provide two of the main reasons to visit Dublin, and they can be enjoyed in addition to the city's Phoenix Park, insightful cycle tours and famous pubs that are available all summer long.

Phoenix Park

Phoenix Park is Europe's largest urban park and is best experienced during the long summer days from May to August. The park is located approximately 3 kilometers west of the city's center and encompasses a total of 1,750 acres. During warm summer days, it's the perfect place for a mid-day picnic or a stroll to one of its many attractions. The Wellington Monument is the centerpiece of the park, rising 207 feet into the air. The Papal Cross is another monument in the park, standing 115 feet high, and packs of deer can often be seen grazing in nearby fields. Other attractions such as the Dublin Zoo and the 22 acres of horticultural displays make Phoenix Park worthy of multiple visits.

Cycle Tour

Summer is the best time to enjoy one of the many cycle tours that operate in and around Dublin. A cycle tour is one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to discover the key points of the city. The tours are usually made by appointment and last about three hours, including cycling time and breaks for refreshments and sightseeing. It's a comfortable yet quick way to ride through the 18th century Georgian portions of Dublin, view the historic Trinity College, stop by Merrion Square and check out Dublin Castle. There are even special multi-day tours available if you want to experience summertime riding along the countryside of Dublin.

Pub Culture

A visit to Dublin is never complete without experiencing the massive pub culture. The Temple Bar district is famed for its vibrant atmosphere and is packed with various pubs. Local Dubliners and foreign visitors enjoy drinks, the occasional traditional Irish musical session and hearty pub food well into the summer nights. Spend a few cool nights roaming the streets of Dublin and you're bound to find the historical classics such as The Long Stone, Temple Bar, Brazen Head and Auld Dubliner pubs for a bit of Irish-pub authenticity.

The Street Performance World Championship

The Street performance World Championship might be the most unusual event held in Dublin, but it's also one of the most entertaining. From the 17th to the 20th of June, the world's best street performers will congregate in Merrion Square to dazzle all passersby. Over two dozen different circus and comedic performers from medieval axe jugglers to strange pyromaniacs will compete to become the world's best street performer. The championship is part of a weekend full of entertainment that includes plenty of children's activities, entertainment and food stalls to enjoy.

The Dublin Horse Show

The Dublin Horse Show is a five-day celebration lasting from August 3rd to the 7th. The RDS venue allows the Dublin Horse Show to host 15 international race events while providing spectators with live music, shopping, children's entertainment, restaurants and a national crafts exhibition. Spectators can shop at 300 different shops stands before visiting one of the many food and bar stands. Whether you want a full meal, a quick bite, a few strong drinks or some high quality seafood and wine, you can have your meal any way you want at the show. You can then purchase individual tickets to one of the many jumping events including the prestigious Longines International Grand Prix of Ireland competition.
