A Double Win for Jurys Inns – Voted Best Independent Hotel Brand 2010 and First Green Hotel Group
A warm welcome, great products, strong green credentials and a quick reaction to customers’ feedback is the Jurys Inns recipe for success
It’s not hard to find a smiling face when you enter one of Jurys Inns 30 city centre hotels, the hotel group’s team is renowned for its warm welcome and good Irish hospitality. Now the 2,800 strong team has a couple more reasons to smile – on Monday, January 18th Jurys Inns was recognised as the Best Independent Hotel Brand 2010 at the Business Travel Awards and also became the UK’s first and only Green Hotel Group.
John Brennan, CEO for Jurys Inns commented: “There’s a Jurys way of doing things - it’s in our group’s DNA. We recruit employees not just based on skills but their friendliness and ability to deliver outstanding service and a warm welcome every time. At Jurys, we genuinely strive to make exceptional our everyday and we’re very proud to be recognised as the Best Independent Hotel Brand 2010 and also the UK’s Greenest Hotel Group.”
Judges sighted product improvements, listening and responding to changing customer requirements and Jurys Inns’ strong green credentials as the main reasons why the hotel group won the highly sought after Best Independent Hotel Brand 2010 award. Other hotels nominated in the category were City Inn, Mal Maison, Hotel du Vin and Von Essen.
Thanks to guests’ feedback, Jurys Inns now for example offers early breakfasts to business guests, has a supply of mobile charges handy for guests who forget their own, added GPS co-ordinates to its website for each hotel and has even moved bathroom lightbulbs for better make-up application!
Jurys Inns has set the bar high for other hotel groups. 19 of its 29 UK and Ireland hotels have received gold awards from the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS). And it’s only a matter of weeks before Jurys Inns’ remaining 10 hotels will be awarded with either silver or gold from the GBTS, adding to its green credentials. What this means is that Jurys Inns is now the first hotel group to receive this level of environmental recognition from the GTBS – most hotel groups receive only a handful of gold awards.
Across all its hotels, Jurys Inns has implemented a range of green programmes, from installing energy efficient light bulbs to monitoring each hotel’s energy consumption using an external assessor. The group has also taken simple steps which have had a big effect – reducing the number of toilet flushes when cleaning bedrooms for instance – these have helped make annual savings of 79 million litres of water.
This double win for Jurys Inns follows a successful string of awards over the past few years. In 2009 the hotel group was jointly named the Most Improved Business Brand based on the results of BDRC’s annual British Hotel Guest Survey. In the same year, Jurys Inns was also awarded the warmest welcome in Liverpool, voted Best Budget Hotel in Scotland and became Scottish Eco Hotel of the Year 2009.
