Jurys Inns Set to Open First Hotel on Mainland Europe
Irish hotel group has opened 5 hotels in 2009 and has another 6 in the pipeline
As part of its ongoing expansion and growth, Jurys Inns Group has set a date of September 1st for the opening of its hotel in Prague, the Group’s first ever hotel on mainland Europe.
The 214 bedroom nine storey hotel is located in a prime city centre location within short walking distance of Prague’s old historic town centre and other key attractions. With a total floor space of 161,500 square feet the hotel will include a restaurant, a bar, 2 dedicated meeting and events rooms – measuring 1,636 square feet in total (152 m2) - a fitness room and a secure underground car park. The new hotel will employ 60 people, bringing the total number of employees in the Jurys Inns Group to over 2,000.
Construction on the building, which Jurys Inns will operate under a management contract, commenced in early 2008 and has been undertaken by Vinci Grands Project.
Jurys Inns Chief Executive, John Brennan, said: “We are very excited about the opening of our first ever hotel on mainland Europe and our team is currently working very hard on making the deadline we’ve set ourselves for the launch. The hotel in Prague will very much reflect the Jurys Inns trademark offering of a convenient city centre location, best value for money and high levels of service.”
Although Prague marks Jurys Inns’ first opening on mainland Europe the Group has in recent months undertaken an ambitious expansion programme in the UK, which has already seen it open five new hotels this year in Sheffield, Watford, Exeter, Swindon and Derby. Jurys will also open a new hotel in Aberdeen in September, the Group’s first Scottish hotel outside of Glasgow and Edinburgh, and a further four openings are scheduled next year in Portsmouth, Glasgow, Newcastle and Bradford.
The rooms in the new Prague hotel can accommodate up to three adults or two adults and two children sharing and are charged out on a per room basis. The rooms’ design and décor is in line with that in the brand new UK hotels and the recently refurbished rooms in Jurys’ Dublin hotels in Christchurch and Custom House Quay. “The design of these rooms was heavily influenced by feedback from existing and prospective Jurys Inns customers and represents a stylish new direction for Jurys Inns. However Prague will also offer some additional new features including complementary internet access, a laptop safe and a mini fridge,” said John Brennan.
Jurys Inns currently operates seven hotels in Ireland - three in Dublin and one each in Belfast, Cork, Galway and Limerick – and 21 hotels in the UK. The openings of Prague and Aberdeen will bring the total number of hotels to 30 and total room numbers to almost 7,000.
Established in 1993, Jurys Inns is owned by Quinlan Private and the Oman Investment Fund (“OIF”), an investment arm of the Sultanate of Oman.
