Jurys Inn Launches Technology Amnesty in Line with Latest Digital Detox Craze

submitted 12/07/11
In keeping with the latest American travel trend for Digital Detox breaks, with packages created to allow travellers to escape from technology and the impact it can have on our day-to-day lives, 'Exceptional Everyday City Hotels' Jurys Inn has announced the launch of its technology amnesty in key hotels throughout the UK.

As part of the amnesty, guests will be encouraged to hand over phones and other mobile devices for one night only, to ensure they make the most of their stay at Jurys Inn and ensure a fantastic night’s sleep. Even when we’re not working, many of us are tempted to spend hours on Twitter or Facebook, or just browsing online, which can impact on rest and relaxation levels. The aim of the technology amnesty is to allow guests to make the most of their time in the hotel, take a moment to think about their hectic lives and unwind. When guests check in, in room entertainment and flat screen TVs can also removed upon request. Alternative entertainment such as card games and books will also be available.

Consumers across the globe are becoming so reliant on constant communication it becomes a natural way of functioning. US psychiatrist and author, Edward Hallowell said: “Technology has freed us up in many ways. But there are unintended consequences. Users become addicted without knowing it. It's the new cigarette.”*

Jurys Inn Sales & Marketing Director, Gill Harris said: “It’s a lot to expect guests to leave home without any of the everyday technology we have come to rely upon but by launching a technology amnesty, it means guests can get rid themselves of temptation upon arrival but get reconnected as soon as they are on the go again. Sometimes we don’t know what’s best for us and this technology detox is a gentle way of helping guests and providing that extra level of service.”

Jurys Inn has attracted attention amongst guests and the industry for the quality, value and consistency of its service within central city locations. The leading hotel group also consistently offers guests facilities more typical of 4* hotels, which is why its properties are known as “Exceptional Everyday City Hotels”.
