The O2 Dublin September 2011

Posted at August 10, 2011

There are typically no performances at the O2 in Dublin in August; that’s the month when the 14,000-seat amphitheatre located at North Wall Quay in the Dublin Docklands prepares for the winter season of concerts, performances, and events. This year, the season starts in mid-September.

Earlier this summer, the touring cast of “Glee,” in anticipation of their concert film being released this month, performed at the O2. In addition, the O2 hosted performances by the “American Idol” cast, Duran Duran, and James Taylor. As always, it was a great spring and summer for music lovers in Dublin.

The O2 will continue its exclusive members clubs this winter. The Audi Club, which is new this year, gave special deals to its members starting this last spring, with performances by Cirque du Soleil. The Premium Club, the O2’s private member club, is a great way for member to entertain their family, friends, and clients. It’s a great entertainment opportunity for those who love music, amidst unique and vibrant surroundings.

The irrepressible Dolly Parton will kick off the winter season at The O2 for one night only, on September 14th. Ticket prices range from €60.00 to €96.25. Dolly has been on tour since early this summer, in support of her new album, “Better Day.” In addition to Ireland and the UK, the tour will take her all over the U.S., Europe, and Australia. Always a bright spot, Dolly recorded “Better Day” in response to the hard economic times gripping the entire world these days, so come and be cheered up by this great performer.

For the rest of September and into October, the O2 will host the stage show “Batman Live.” Tickets are very reasonable, at €23.00 to €44.20. “Batman Live,” which is more like the campy, often over-the-top American TV series of the 1960s than the darker films of the more recent movie franchise, first premiered in the UK this summer, and it’s coming to The O2 from September 28th to the 1st of October, with two shows during the weekend. This is Batman like you’ve never seen him before, in a million pound stage production of unprecedented scale, and a must-see for both families and Batman fans alike. If you are planning on catching any of these shows and need a hotel then check out the Jurys Inn range of hotels in Dublin.
