Belfast Waterfront, September 2011

Posted at August 23, 2011

Waterfront Hall is a multi-purpose facility in Belfast. In 2002, it was voted the second-best conference centre in the world. The Waterfront is always busy, and no more so than in September, when we say farewell to hot summer days and begin to bring in the cozy winter months.

The Waterfront starts off the month of September with the Literary Belfast on 6 September, a celebration of Belfast as seen through the eyes of the city’s writers, poets, and novelist. European Heritage Open Days, another celebration of Europe’s great cultural history, will take place on 10 and 11 September. Performers include psychic Sally Morgan on 12 September, Eclection on the 24th, and comedians Des O’Connor also on the 24th and Al Murray and Jon Richardson on the 30th. Musicians such as The Hollies on 17 September, the Ulster Orchestra on the 21st, the 23rd, and the 30th, Garth Brooks on 23 September, Crosby and Nash on 28 September will all perform at the Waterfront. Movies and plays are shown all month, every month; this September, the film “Troll Hunter” will premiere on 16 September, and the comedy play “Cooking with Elvis” will be produced from the 22nd through the 24th. The Waterfront will also host the dancing and musical spectacular “Images of Ireland” on 25 and 26 September. If you are planning on attending any of these events and need a hotel, check out the Jurys Inn range of hotels in Belfast .

Since opening in 1997, the Waterfront has played an important role in Belfast’s economic and social development. As the Waterfront has grown into an award-winning, all-purpose conference, arts, and entertainment centre, it has contributed to the city’s recognition as a major European destination of conferences, culture, and business investment. In addition to its main 22,000 capacity auditorium and studio space that seats over 2200 people, it has fourteen meeting room, gallery space, a gift shop, a restaurant, and two bars.

The Waterfront, in its fourteen-year history, has staged almost 4,000 performances, hosted almost 2,500 conferences and meetings, sold over 3.5 million tickets and welcomed over 5.5 million visitors, and attracted over 100,000 overseas conference delegates. The Waterfront has been a major contributor to Belfast’s local economy.

The Belfast Waterfront has a wide variety of events, performances, and concerts, for all tastes and preferences. Its offerings for the month of September will continue its rich history of hosting quality performances to the people of Belfast and to Ireland.
