Ballincollig Winter Music Festival Cork January 2011

Ballincollig is located 8km west of Cork city and is best known as the location of the Ballincollig Royal Gunpowders Mills, which was originally established in 1794 to supply gunpowder to the British Empire. This small satellite town is now also host to the Ballincollig Winter Music Festival, which will hold its latest event from January 27th to the 31st.

The Winter Music Festival features a large selection of contemporary and traditional musical acts. These shows will all be held in the upstairs live music and recreational room at The White Horse located in the West Village of Ballincollig.
Tickets for the Ballincollig Winter Music Festival are set at a reduced price of 15 euros for the first day of the festivities on the 27th and 20 euros for the 28th through the 31st.

The Ballincolig Winter Music Festival is packed with the following activities and musical events:

January 28th: Lord Mayor Derry Canty officially opens the festival to the public. This is followed by live performances from Dermont Bryne, Brid Harper and Alec Finn.
January 29th: The first full day of events begins with a morning of traditional Irish music performances by local Cork city artists. The festival holds its headlining performance at 8:30 PM, featuring Altan with guests Tommie Cunniffe and John Neville .

January 30th: Saturday morning is packed with accordion, fiddle, flute and banjo classes based on traditional Irish music. The night's festivities are highlighted by a performance from Liam O'Maonlai.

January 31st: The final day of the festival contains a performance by the Sun Wind Woodwind Quintet, a traditional Irish music session, and a performance by Mundy.
