On February 19th, The National Indoor Arena on King Edwards Road in Birmingham will be hosting the 2011 Aviva Grand Prix. The Aviva Grand Prix is one of the 14 Samsung Diamond League events. These events were designed to gather the world's top 80 athletes for a truly global track and field league-style competition. The world-renowned indoor competition is one of three athletic events to be hosted in the Birmingham area, along with the outdoor Aviva Grand Prix and the UK trials and Championships at the Alexander Stadium.
The Aviva Grand Prix on February 19th kicks off with a pre-show entertainment event by Extreme High Jump, which showcases extreme sports skills from Inline skaters and BMX riders. Spectators will then be treated to a variety of men's and women's competitions. The schedule includes the following:
Men and women: 3000m, 1500m, 400m, 60m hurdles, 60m Men's only: Triple jump and high jump Women's only: 800m, pole vault and long jump
The event will contain plenty of top tier athletes, including world triple jump champion Christian Olsson as well as Britain's world champion medalists, Jessica Ennis, Lisa Dobriskey and Jenny Meadows. Many more athletes are expected to participate in the 19 events as they continue to prepare for the 2012 London Olympics. Tier 1 seats will be priced at £24 and tier 2 seats will be £18 each. Specialized family zones are available, with adult tickets priced at £18 and child tickets at £5. With the London Olympics fast approaching, there's no better way to gear up for track and field competition than attending the Aviva Grand Prix on February 19th at the NIA in Birmingham.
